ON THE USE OF VIRTUAL PROTOTYPING IN SHIP DESIGN

Submitting Author: Mr. Andrea Lommi

Abstract:
In the field of ship design, the use of simulation plays an increasingly important role. Thanks to researches carried out by the scientific community over the past years, many events or entities involved in ship operations can be correctly simulated rather than measured as it happens when dealing with phisical mock-ups. This huge difference reflects into the great amount of feedbacks a virtual prototyping simulation can give. In this paper, the description of how Virtual Prototyping has been used by CETENA to set up real time simulations for the Italian Navy is given; selected applications are reported in order to demonstrate the capabilities of the developed simulation, also in case of interconnection with other simulations.
