A SIMULATION BASED DSS FOR MODELLING PASSENGER ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES IN AN IMMEGRATION SYSTEM OF A MAJOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Abstract:
Even the most careful planning of airport systems sometimes fails to prevent major design blunders. The reputation of an airport is, to a large extent, determined by the quality of its terminal buildings, not just as architectural imagery but also in terms of customer convenience (Ballis et al., 2002; Edwards, 1998). To avoid costly mishaps, airports have long relied on computer simulation for the assessment, improvement, and analysis of flow systems. Simulation predicts and displays the movements and interactions of the airport system’s components. By evaluating the placements, pathways, and operating parameters of components (queues and resources) before it is purchased or installed, industrial engineers can avoid pileups, bottlenecks, and other malfunctions. Thus, simulation is proving most beneficial for complex airport flow projects.
