Meeting Synthesis, Presentation & Pictures

ALACRES2: Advanced Laboratory for Crisis and Emergencies in Ports and marine domain developed by Simulation within a common collaborative Space
The presentation of the ALACRES2 Project, coordinated by the University of Genoa, will be held on May 28th, at 11 am at the historic headquarters of Engineering School in Villa Cambiaso, Genoa. The ALACRES2 Partners will be present including: Coast Guard General Command, Toulon Port Authority / Var Chamber of Commerce, Port Authority Bastia / Chamber of Commerce of Haute-Corse, Fire Department Regional Directorate for Sardinia, University of Cagliari , ARPAL and Quinn Consortium.

The project, funded for several million Euro, represents an initiative of excellence on the issues of Safety & Security of Ports at International Level and it will employ the most modern Simulation techniques for the creation of a Virtual Laboratory able to experiment and finalize new solutions in terms of procedures and technologies to be implemented across the different actors involved in Extended Maritime Framework.

The Agenda is synthesized below:
Dean Meeting Room, Polytechnic School, University of Genoa, Villa Cambiaso, 11:00-12:30

  • Opening & Press Release
      • Welcome of Prof. Giorgio Roth, Dean of the Polytechnic University of Genoa
      • Prof. Agostino Bruzzone, Coordinator of ALACRES2, University of Genoa
      • Prof. Paolo Fadda, University of Cagliari
      • C.F. Giulio Piroddi, Harbor Master's Office
      • Dr. Agostino Moriano, Dr. Serena Recagno, ARPAL
      • Dr. Madelaine Guidicelli, Bastia Port Authority, Chamber of Commerce of Upper Corsica
      • Dr. Elena Tonon, Port Authority of Toulon, Chamber of Commerce of the Var
      • Prof. Marcello Braglia, President of the Quinn Consortium

      • Demonstration of Simulation Solutions, Extended Reality (Virtual, Augmented & Mixed Reality) and MS2G (Modeling, interoperable Simulation & Serious Games) applied to Ports and Marine Domain
    13:00 Buffet Lunch

In the afternoon, between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm, the Steering Committee and the Project Planning activities of ALACRES2 will take place

    Summary of the ALACRES2 Project

The ALACRES2 Project (Advanced Service of Laboratory for Crises and Emergencies in port in the Upper Tyrrhenian cooperation area, based on Simulation), with a value of 2 Million Euro funded by the Interreg Maritime Program of the European Community, is in fact coordinated by the Simulation group of Prof.Agostino Bruzzone of the University of Genoa and involves prestigious Institutions with the objective of creating and activating a permanent laboratory capable of identifying, testing and validating integrated emergency management procedures in the case of incidents and crises within port areas.
The ALACRES2 Laboratory will use the most sophisticated Simulation, Virtual & Augmented Reality techniques using the new MS2G (Modeling, Interoperable Simulation & Serious Games) paradigm to support the behaviors of the different operational figures called to manage emergencies, testing new behavioral protocols, new standards operations, new emergency monitoring and control procedures, new support technologies for on-board infrastructure and systems. In fact, the aim is to create a service for the definition of unequivocal management protocols both for organizations and for personnel, capable of supporting the development of operators' skills in emergencies in one of the weakest and most critical conditions of the supply chain, precisely where there is the physical discontinuity due to the passage in Ports from Sea to Land and vice versa.

On the occasion of the Preliminary Meeting on March 14, the ALACRES2 Project will be presented in Savona Campus. ALACRES2 aims to create a Virtual Laboratory and will be coordinated by Prof. Agostino Bruzzone from the Genovese University in cooperation with Prof.Paolo Fadda of Cagliari University and other Partners.
Indeed, ALACRES2 is based the participation of prestigious Institutions with the aim of creating and activating a Permanent laboratory able to identify, test and validate integrated emergency management procedures in the case of accidents and crises in port areas. The ALACRES2 Laboratory will use the most sophisticated Simulation, Virtual and Augmented Reality techniques using the new Modelingi Interoperable Simulation and Serious Games (MS2G) paradigm to support the behavior of the different operational figures called to the management of emergencies, testing new behavioral protocols, new standards of operations, new emergency monitoring and control procedures, new support technologies for infrastructure and on-board systems. Ports and Simulation

    Immersive and Interactive Simulation

Simulation based on the MS2G Paradigm allows today to guarantee maximum Immersiveness and Interactivity in reproducing complex port and marine scenarios. Over the years, the Simulation Team has developed interesting interoperable solutions that employ M & S to support decisions, train and evaluate new infrastructural procedures and solutions.

ALACRES2 reiterates the concept of the Extended Maritime Framework (EMF) developed by the Simulation Team of the University of Genoa, which considers the marine context in the different domains that influence it (ie the surface of the sea, the underwater world, the sky, the coast, cyberspace and space) ; in this way we will construct models that consider the different elements and active systems and their interactions in the face of crises and disasters, including also the human component. Disasters and operational scenarios will be defined with particular attention to the needs of Operational Partners to maximize the impact on the territory and the fallout of research into concrete results that increase safety in the marine environment.
