ABSTRACT
This work focuses on the development of a model for
simulating special truck-mounted cranes operating
within construction yard; the authors present the
conceptual model as well as the test procedure for
developing this training system. The simulator
presented has been validated and tested, by comparison
with a real crane performances and then it has been
applied for the training on a real classroom of crane
operators with significant results that are shown in this
paper. The training equipment is based on virtual
reality to guarantee maximum impact on the trainees
and furthermore to generate visual report for the
trainer. The author developed this simulator as an HLA
(High Level Architecture) federation; this approach
supports cooperation and competition during training
among the trainees linked in LAN or in WAN, as well
as full interactions for the trainer.
